The food chain is only as strong as the weakest link…

The food chain is only as strong as the weakest link and other thoughts leading up to this monster called, “Our Daily Bread”   It has been a minute since my last post and sooooo much has happened. The artistic crew who are conjuring this work, Our Daily Bread celebrated the 100th anniversary of International Women’s day and Mardi Gras this year by having an Eat-In in the middle of the afternoon of Tuesday, March 8th. MJ’s Brass Boppers kicked it

Reflections on the opening weekend of “Our Daily Bread”

Reflections on the opening weekend of "Our Daily Bread" This past Thursday, Our Daily Bread opened to very supportive and enthusiastic audiences. It was an amazing experience filled with love, food, exhaustion and the absolute commitment of all of the performers and creators who were integral to this experience. Laura Diamondstone created a magical environment in the lobby of CounterPULSE which really set the tone for the evenings experience. The first day I walked into the lobby while she was

This past Sunday was our final performance of, “Our Daily Bread” at CounterPULSE. After a two week run which included 8 sold out performances and one show for students from Mission High School, I am still feeling the overwhelm of such a wonderful, ass kicking, joyous and painful experience that was the making and performing of this work. It has been a journey that felt so right to complete it where it all began-at CounterPULSE. The process was magical in

Hello from FACT/SF!

Hello! I could not be more thrilled to begin developing Pretonically Oriented v.3 at CounterPULSE via the Artist Residency Commissioning Program.  The last few rounds of ARC have produced some truly remarkable works – Kegan Marling and Dandelion Dancetheater most recently, and Jesse Hewit and Laura Arrington last August.  So great.  Challenging, beautiful, nuance-filled works have become de rigueur for ARC, and I’m psyched to be included in this program and this effort alongside the wonderful Lenora Lee.  So. Erik Satie (part of FACT/SF’s Tasty Tuesdays)

I think with Satie's work, especially with this piece, a simple and methodical space is opened that allows the listener to submerge themselves in thought, reflection, and image-building.  The work has an emotional quality...but I think it's generated by the listener, and doesn't necessary lie within the score itself.  There's something about this that reminds me of one of FACT/SF's goals with Pretonically Oriented...to try to methodically create, organize, and re-configure so that the viewer can watch what unfolds, while

You might know by now that FACT/SF is interested in many things...systems and people and movements and implications and meta-theatrical concerns and deep emotive expressions.  As we do our best to innovate and push push push forward - both relative to our own work and also the larger field of dance working/making, we always find it helpful to reflect on the greats that innovated long ago, and who continue to inspire us today.  Here's one of Beethoven's masterpieces.  It's incredible,

Hello Everyone, Right now my shared winter residency at CounterPULSE is in full swing and my performers & I are feeling really good about where we are in the process of creating this piece.  We've been working & playing hard in the studio making relevant material and out on the streets & beach shooting video footage.  As we approach our final weeks of editing and shaping what we have into a compelling, succinct piece I am also turning my attention
