Emerging choreographers Brittany Brown Ceres and Sonya Smith present world-premiere dances in a flight of sensual entwinement through societal lore, fortifying a journey from despair to empowerment. Navigating metaphors of intra- and interpersonal entanglement, hidden limitations, and visceral emotion, Smith & Ceres shape an evening of fluid, curious and frenzied dance.

Here is what some of the audience had to say about In/divisible: Sonya Smith & dance ceres with special guest, Sadie Weinberg:
“Transforming beauty, using the weight of ones life as a counter weight to reach beyond what is seemingly possible”
“Fantastic performance”
“YEAH! So good to see hard workin’, lively, talented dance/ music performin’!”
“Brilliant”
Very impressive work by all but a huge wow on the piece by Brittany Brown Ceres. I came to see Sonya Smith’s work after seeing her incredible recent performance with Liz Roman & Dancers. Also kudos to Liz and her team for the unique and stylish use of aerial apparatus.
But I must say I left that night completely amazed with the intricacy and beauty of the Ceres piece. I attend lots of dance in the Bay area from modern to ballet and this was a wonderful piece. I keep thinking of seamless fluidity, movement that flows and flows. It was so well choreographed that you did not want it to end. The dancers fit so well into the piece and their individual and collective talent was very apparent. This group really practiced this piece and their efforts were rewarded. I just hope we will have the opportunity to see a lot more Ceres dances and soon!
PS: It was good to see one of the Chronicle’s dance critics review the entire program as it deserved the press.
