Edge is an incubation residency and commissioning program for contemporary choreographers whose work is deeply curious about the intersection of art practice and social change. Through work-in-progressing showings, discourse events, and culminating live performances, this program is a platform for investigating relevancy and creating new knowledge. By eliminating boundaries between disciplines, between artists and audience, and between communities, Edge produces innovative performance works with transformational potential.

Edge is part of CounterPulse’s ongoing Artist Residency Commissioning program (ARC). At its core the ARC program yields to the emergent ideas from independent artists in the field. As such the curatorial directions of the program are responsive and ever changing. In tandem with this strategic impressionability, the program seeks work that is saturated with the values of relevance, transformation and innovation. Work that is nuanced and self-aware of the ways in which it is contextualized by and gives context to social, political, economic or environmental issues and phenomena are strong fits for the program.
Residency culminates in two weekends (six evenings) of double-billed performances and includes:
➞ $1500 Artist Stipend
➞ $1000 Production Budget
➞ 25% of Box Office
➞ 100 hours of rehearsal space
➞ Production, Marketing, and Tech support

The work honors the practices that get passed down through recipe, spell, and story, as well as the memories active and activated in the body, plants, the land (soil, clay, mycelium, strata), and in spirit.
