Huwaida has a recurring dream that has been keeping her up for many nights now, where she comes out in a swimsuit and a hijab (Muslim head scarf for women)… perhaps it is nerves about her match-made engagement, or the anxiety form her brother who is trying to break the engagement. Meanwhile, Kamal, her father, is rejoicing the engagement, Little doe she know, everything is about to change in this East-Meets-West mayhem of a comedy. Meet the Fawzi family, a Middle Eastern Muslim family living in post 9/11 America, as an American family.

10 ACROBATS IN AN AMAZING LEAP OF FAITH is one of Egyptian write Yuseff Guindi’s most hilarious and biting social commentary on being Muslim in America. Considered highly controversial when it ran in Chicago, the play garnered a lot of attention from several members of the Muslim community for its crafty, light-hearted treatment of hot-button issues that include atheism and homosexuality.

“It is not often that you come across a play that is at once family-friendly, funny and acutely observant,” says Rooben Morgan, Director of the play and Artistic Director of IndiStage. “There is generally a lack of good plays that create sound forums for diaspora and minority issues, however you want to define or describe those groups. “This play not only takes on a very sensitive family situation, in terms o f their faith, race, and the country they have chosen to live in, but also creates space for topics that are considered taboos in general – it truly is very specific and global at the same time. Plus, it’s going to be a night of just good, fun theatre.”
