CounterPulse TenderArts Program announces The Glitter Show, paying homage to the role glitter has played as an important visual element in the history of gay liberation and creating a culturally defining, gay aesthetic. Furthermore The Glitter Show has an educational message through introducing environmentally friendly glitter and the importance of environmentally friendly glitter to safety for both artist and environment. Traditional glitter is many times sourced from micro plastic, which is extremely long lasting and harmful to the environment, animals and people. The use of environmentally friendly glitter to make artwork for The Glitter Show is required.
In order to limit our environmental impact we are mandating that art made for The Glitter Show be certified biodegradable, and the finished piece be coated with a sealant or inside of an enclosed frame to prevent glitter from spreading throughout the interior of the CounterPulse building, as well as the outside alcove and sidewalk areas. Sealing the glitter portions of artwork exhibited in the The Glitter Show is required.
When you are making artwork for The Glitter Show at home or in a studio, take care to not spread the glitter everywhere. Remember 50 years ago the leading cause of death among visual artists was from the materials they used to make art.
The Glitter Show will be exhibited at 80 and a Half Turk, (our intimate side gallery) Artwork may protrude no more than six inches from the wall.
