Hey y’all,
FACT/SF is back this week with another Tasty Tuesdays posting. We share who we’re inspired by…artists and thinkers who we think have made, or are making, significant contributions. This week it’s the choreographer, dancer, and, by some accounts, true founder of modern dance – which of course laid the foundation for contemporary dance – Vaslav Nijinsky. Sometimes our short-term memories prevent us from seeing the very, very long history of performance innovation – so as we continue to charge forward, it’s good to look back every once in a while.

Inspired by ancestral, community-centered, and spiritual relationships to land and plants, [and then we must be] by Audrey Johnson is a research and ritual project honoring Black American practices with land and plants through the modes of food, farming, rootwork, and magic. The work honors the practices that get passed down through recipe, spell, and story, as well as the memories active and activated in the body, plants, the land (soil, clay, mycelium, strata), and in spirit.
Gorgeous! The movement has such a timeless quality. Truly epic.
