Ethereal

Ethereal: Market Street Studios Meet Tenderloin Stage

San Francisco, CA — ArtSpan and CounterPulse are proud to present “Ethereal,” a transformative group exhibition featuring works by thirteen artists from ArtSpan’s Journal Building Residency. The exhibition runs from January 9 through April 28, 2025, at CounterPulse’s historic Tenderloin venue supporting experimental arts.

“Ethereal” spans three floors, inviting viewers into wondrous, introspective dreamscapes through an array of sculptures, paintings, and multimedia installations. The exhibition showcases works that blur the boundaries between reality and imagination, created by current and former residents of ArtSpan’s below-market-rate studios off Market street within the Journal Building.

The public is invited to attend the Artist Reception on February 6, 2025, from 5-7 PM, coinciding with SF First Thursdays Art Walk. CounterPulse serves as a starting point for this self-guided art walk experience featuring over 10 exhibition venues throughout the neighborhood.

Featured artists include Chad Abbley, Cody Aguirre, Andrea Bergen, Henry Bortman, Jeff Bostic, Lexie Bouwsma, Taiko Fujimura, Tisha Kenny, Kenna Lindsay, Denise Laws, Sophia Lee, Eliot Rattle, and Jan Simmala.

ArtSpan’s Art-In-Neighborhoods program co-curates annual exhibitions at CounterPulse. The AIN program creates opportunities across various spaces for emerging and established Bay Area artists. ArtSpan partners with building owners to transform underutilized spaces into exhibition venues and below-market-rate studios. These creative spaces energize downtown San Francisco’s arts community.
