Wojciech Grudziński is a Polish artist, choreographer and dancer based in Amsterdam. What he explores in his work are the in-between and interdisciplinary spaces, queerness, and embracing diversity. His practice is based on performative freedom and investigating implicit or explicit power dynamics in theater and choreography. He graduated from the Warsaw State Ballet School and the faculty of contemporary dance at the CODARTS in Rotterdam. Throughout his Master Studies at DAS Theatre (2021-2023), Grudziński explored the bowing gesture and its ambiguous meanings. As a performer he has worked with many artists, including Dries Verhoeven (The NarcoSexuals), Ben J. Riepe (CREATURE), and Ula Sickle (Free Gestures).

About This Project

Now, what? Are you a student in need of a good lesson, or are you a teacher in search of a willing student? Will you obey this binary choice, or are you ready to refuse, non-conform, and deny it? This is where the game begins.

On Friday, August 23rd at 6:00 PM, Grudziński will wrap up his residency at CounterPulse with an open studio presentation and workshop. The research in San Francisco is the next step in the development of Teach Me Not!—an ongoing study into the choreography of disagreement. How do you dance “NO”? Teach Me Not! is a praise of students’ longing for the bittersweet memories of their masters.

Teach Me Not! was initiated by Wojciech Grudziński in collaboration with Maria Magdalena Kozłowska. Its first phase was developed with support from ICK Dans Amsterdam as part of the NEW ADVENTURES program. The premiere of Teach Me Not! is scheduled for April 2025.
