Maria Silk (she/her) is an artist and choreographer based in San Francisco. Her work has been presented at CounterPulse, BAMPFA, the Cantor Center for the Arts, Slash, and Southern Exposure, among other local venues, as well as internationally at Fierce! Festival (Birmingham, UK) and Improspekcije (Zagreb, Croatia). Maria’s practice emerges from over a decade of immersion in Bay Area queer nightlife as a drag performer, DJ, and producer. Currently, she co-hosts the monthly drag show Angels at Aunt Charlie’s Lounge as well as the bimonthly show Juicy Fruit at Bar Part Time.

About the Project:

Maria Silk and an extra special guest will collaborate on a duet exploring the relationship of dance music to queer life, grief, and time. Working through the altered states of the dance floor, the duet taps into the hedonism and relentlessness of a four-on-the-floor beat. In this story, dance music emerges as a repository of queer memory and grief as well as a tool for the intergenerational transmission of knowledge.

Collaborators:

A special international guest! ;)
