About this project

Kinetech
Arts reflects on the human spirit in the face of great difficulty through dance and data physicalization. In this performance, we extend data visualization into data physicalization by incorporating interactivity, projection mapping, and physical expression. Through this process, open source and personal data weave into an immersive landscape for dancers to investigate the collective and subconscious attitude towards our bodies and health.

Daiane Lopes da Silva is a dancer, choreographer, educator and artistic director of Kinetech Arts. Her work incorporates dance with technologies that contribute to uncertainty, creating an environment that demands full awareness and spontaneous communication. In her current research, she aims to translate data visualization into data physicalization. Daiane studied at P.A.R.T.S., directed by Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker in Brussels and graduated with a B.A. in Psychology, Alpha Beta Kappa, from SFSU. In 2014, she was a resident artist at Headlands Center for the Arts and a collaborator artist at Djerassi in 2016.

Weidong Yang has a Ph.D in Physics, and M.S in Computer Science. His most significant invention improved the alignment measurement in semiconductor processing to the precision of 0.01nm, a crucial enabling technique for today’s CPU, GPU and memory, today adopted by all major semiconductor manufacturers. Weidong has performed with KUNST-STOFF, Sara Shelton-Mann and Paco Gomez. He was a resident scientist at Djerassi in 2016. Weidong grew up in China, experienced cultural revolution, Tai-an-men Square movement before coming to US. The contrasting experience in cultural and political system gave him a broad perspective when connecting current events to art making.
