About this Project

 

The MÆ – Motion Aftereffect project intends to reveal how virtual reality (VR) technology can animate / reinstate / destabilize the meaning(s) of the corporeal body.

Artist Bios

 

Freya Björg Olafson is a Canadian intermedia artist who works with video, audio, painting and performance. Her praxis engages with identity and the body, as informed by technology and the Internet. Her work has been presented internationally at museums, galleries, universities, performance festivals and conferences. Throughout her career Olafson has benefited from residencies, most notably through the Experimental Media & Performing Arts Center in Troy, New York (EMPAC). In 2014, Olafson was nominated for the National Media Arts Prize from the Independent Media Arts Alliance by Video Pool Media Arts Centre. She holds an MFA in New Media from the Transart Institute / Donau Universität (Krems, Austria) and can be visited online at freyaolafson.com.

 

Yagiz Mungan is an interdisciplinary developer/artist/scholar working with the concepts of interaction, VR/AR, games, web, mobile, algorithmic generation of audiovisual systems, sound, and interactive music. His recent individual works, which investigate the relationship between technology and our daily lives, have been shown in various venues and events in the Bay Area such as Soundwave Biennale, 3D Web Fest and CODAME. Yagiz is currently working at AKQA creating interactive experiences. He holds MFA in Electronic and Time-Based Art at Purdue University and MS in computer engineering from Chalmers University of Technology. yagizmungan.com
