Bucket Descriptions
Running Your Name with Rick Darnell
A choreographic tool for generating movement
Informed by the dance composition teachings of Robert Ellis Dunn, you’ll be invited to write your name in cursive and use this as a floor pattern for running. Find the accents, the slow parts and the fast parts, use the up curves and the down curves of your name to choreograph your movement! Open to everyone regardless of movement training or experience.
Please come prepared with a paper and pen and have some indoor or outdoor space for movement (pending air quality).
Dancing to PaulStretch with Kevin Lo
This is a workshop on how to really slow down and enjoy an audio track. We’ll pick a song, slow it down, dance to it, try a different song slowed down-all with movement scores. We’ll finish with all of us simultaneously playing our slowed down song. One big mess!
All Ages Dance Making with Hannah Ayasse
Learn some simple movement warm-ups and improvisation games rooted in child development and relationship building. Come with your child or your inner child. Connect to your body, connect with each other through play, and leave with some tools for making a collaborative dance composition whenever, wherever.
How to Clone Plants with Zerena Diaz
With scissors and cinnamon, Zerena Diaz will teach you how to forage and clone plants you may already have to grow your friends and family. She will discuss the importance of connecting to our plant siblings and relationship building with our natural world.
Pandemic Poetics with Justin Ebrahemi
Read a poem and I’ll dance. Dance and I’ll read a poem. Show me your somatics and I’ll show you my words. Show me your words and we’ll all move together. Choreograph your feels, feel the screen. Zoom in, out, and within our pandemic poetics.
Chair Yoga with Julie Phelps
For many of us chairs are a homebase for us, so let’s find ways to stretch and strengthen our body from this place we spend time. These quick chair yoga poses focus activating the spine to bring more alertness and focus, while strengthening and strengthening the back and core.
This activity is supported in part by the California Arts Council, a state agency, and the National Arts and Disability Center at the University of California Los Angeles.
