We invite you to an in-depth lighting design 101 with GG Torres. This is your chance to create and try out your own design to a live performance (low-key). Max of 12 participants each day, so that it’s an intimate learning group and everyone gets a chance at hands-on applications. It’s a one-day workshop offered twice.
This rare opportunity will help you get hands on with this oftentimes intimidating element of theatre, get fluent in lighting tech speak, and bump up the production level of your work! Most of all, we’ll be having some fun 🙂
By Two-Spirits for our BIPOC fam
This workshop is only open to BIPOC folks who are themselves LGBTQ2S+, or who know how to hold love and respect for LGBTQ2S+ folks.
Please don’t sign up if you are white or are uncomfortable around LGBTQ2S+ folks. If we still have tickets available close to the dates, we’ll open them up to a broader audience.
Hands-on learning including these topics:
– what’s a lighting plot
– how and when to work on your design, in pace with the tech rehearsals, strategically considering how you want to use your time in the theatre
– we’ll review different lighting schemes, transitions, timing, and technical terms for them
– how to communicate your vision to the people you’re working with
– and we’ll have some time to experiment!
Each workshop day will stand on its own, meaning that the same curriculum and flow of events will happen the same way on both dates. So sign up for the one date that works best for you.
Snacks will be provided and we encourage you to bring your own food for the food break.
Weaving Spirits is grateful to be able to offer this gem to the wider community of BIPOC artists. Landa and Javier, our curators, recognize that performing artists of color rarely get a leg up in navigating institutions. If this workshop is not for you, please know that our performance nights are truly Open to All, as are several of our upcoming March workshops.
Our Festival opens March 18th at CounterPulse! To check out our cute and brilliant lineup of artists visit counterpulse.org/weavingspirits2022
