May 8, SUN 2PM
Dancers’ Group and CounterPULSE present 2nd Sundays, an open discourse project in which artists share works in progress and participate in a constructive conversation with audience members and fellow artists. This is an exciting opportunity to advance the open exchange of ideas and participate in the creative process of performing artists. This month’s salon includes work from:
Tim Rubel Human Shakes: Eroticize this! This Piece humorously explores the voyeuristic nature of beaches and other spaces of queer sociality. Through highly physical and intimate choreography, erotic fantasies are revealed that link the divisive assumptions made by the straight majority about queer people with the ways we as queer people interact with each other.
detour dance: Little by Little, a 365-day project, is an exploration of time’s effect on the human body. The piece will feature an inter-generational duet between an elderly woman and her 21-year old self with movement that consists of contact, contemporary modern technique and everyday gesture — interactions tender and confrontational as both women struggle to come to terms with the past and present.
Nina Haft & Company: T:HERE is a new work by Nina Haft & Company about family, exile and resilience. Inspired by NH&Co.’s recent experiences traveling in Jordan, Palestine and Israel, T:HERE will integrate elements of contemporary and Middle Eastern folkloric dance forms in an original work about the ways we embody place. T:HERE premieres in June 2011 at the San Francisco International Arts Festival as part of the Middle East Moving program.
