The Turk Street Mural is a 300-foot mural organized by CounterPulse featuring an original hand painted mural by Twin Walls Mural Company , and showcasing information and images from six amazing Tenderloin organizations, Boys & Girls Club, Skywatchers, Larkin Street Youth Services, Vietnamese Youth Development Center, and 826 Valencia.

The Turk Street Mural was instigated as part of the Turk & Taylor Project, a multiyear initiative supported by the San Francisco Office of Economic and Workforce Development and Group i devised to mitigate some of the issues associated with the construction of the Group i 950-974 Market development. CounterPulse is additionally working with Future Cities Lab to design an interactive storytelling platform and parklet. The Turk & Taylor Project was developed through a co-design process with 60 Tenderloin residents, workers, and visitors during the Tenderloin Public Art Exchange in Fall of 2017. The Turk & Taylor Project, like all of CounterPulse’s Public Art Initiatives aims to leverage art to create public space.

The mural features the original hand painted mural, Tenderloin: Stay Rooted by Twin Walls Mural Company. The foreground of this mural was created in the CounterPulse Project Space in April 2018 with the support of over 80 neighbors and friends.

Thanks to Chris Cook and Hannah Boles, who installed the posters and stencils.

And thank you to project funders, the San Francisco Office of Economic and Workforce Development, the Mid Market Business Association, and Group i.
