utam-moses-smallFalling into flight with Utam Moses

Searching for readiness, we will explore: what makes us ready? To spill, dive, loft into ascent. Perhaps it’s more tools, skill-building, or asking oneself the right question. We will orient the investigation toward the fall – gravity as partner and instigator, and our ability to be ready to catch… a ride, a drop, an invitation and initiation. How can we hone skills around moving into the floor, being off-balance, inversions, backspace with deeper availability and receptivity, to take more risk and experience more playful surprise? What do we each want from this dance form, this particular dance…Bring your questions and challenges, we will fall and get up together. This class is open to all and will be designed to segway into the open jam

Utam Moses is a dancer, activist, and visual /performance artist. She is fascinated by the intersection of the geographic and the psychological, the breaking down, the imaginative and the untold. Her creative process has been greatly influenced by contact improvisation, Qigong, Amerta movement improvisation, and paratheatrical explorations. She completed her Master’s in Performance Studies at NYU, and is curious about the cultivation of deeper receptivity, disorientation, the subtle articulations of presence and agile shifts of sight, state and story. She has performed with Body Research/Karl Frost, The Contact Project and The Doors Project in NYC, and has been a teaching assistant for contact improvisation classes at Juilliard and Indiana University.

An art space for contact and improvisation, experimentation and inquiry. Tuesday nights jams are a focused forum for movers and shakers: experimentation is welcome, be it in physical, sociological, performative, or compositional realms. Each improvisor is responsible for their own choices. Each jam is cooked up by those who show up.
