Commissioned new works by four selected performing artists.

CIRF curated spring 2011 show imageThe Red Door directed by Kristen Greco
Live music by Antonio Alemanno (Italy)
Dancers: Daniel Bear Davis, Kristen Greco, Rosemary Hannon,
Mirva Makinen (Finland) and Timothy O’Donnell (NYC)

Begun in collaborative immersion with the performers through an EïMERGE Earthdance residency, this piece dove into Carl Jung’s The Red Book via butoh, contemporary dance, meditation, and contact improvisation. The performers enter through ‘The Red Door’ into their own explorations of light and shadow, waking and dreaming, rest and unrest.

SENSE OBJECT directed by Miriam Wolodarski
performed by Zack Bernstein, Miriam Wolodarski, and John Leo

Good manners are made up of petty sacrifices. Tiny horrors wrapped in a plastic. “Let’s see here,” said the blind man to the deaf. “Let’s ask the girl with no tongue.” A contemplation on the pleasures and limits of form and language, the edges of social convention, the distant terrors we are tacitly complicit in. The homesick word birds that never land.
