I think with Satie’s work, especially with this piece, a simple and methodical space is opened that allows the listener to submerge themselves in thought, reflection, and image-building.  The work has an emotional quality…but I think it’s generated by the listener, and doesn’t necessary lie within the score itself.  There’s something about this that reminds me of one of FACT/SF’s goals with Pretonically Oriented…to try to methodically create, organize, and re-configure so that the viewer can watch what unfolds, while still having space, time, and freedom to interact with their own thoughts and observations.
