Block Fest = Fun. Free. First. Friday.
Every first Friday of the month from 3PM-4:30PM locally sourced Artist Activators will offer up free art making and sharing up and down our block of Turk Street. From live performance and art exhibition to screen printing workshops and crochet jams, Block Fest is a monthly tasting and testing of the Tenderloin’s creative spirit.
February 3 February 8 Block Fest with Chris Cook and Julian Dash
February 3 Block Fest has been rescheduled to Wednesday February 8 on account of heavy rains in the forecast. See you then!
February 3 February 8 features Chris Cook in front of CounterPulse, and Julian Dash Prince, a couple doors down at the Holy Stitch Denim Social Club. Chris will be doing a silkscreen workshop for hoodies and t-shirts, and Julian will be showing participants how to create their own embroidery patch. We’ll have some clothes on hand, but feel free to bring your own!
Chris Cook is a multi-talented artist/musician and overall fun-loving guy that works in a variety of mediums including: Textile Screen Printing, Decoupage, mural painting, and electronic based installations. Chris has been heavy involved in the SF art scene since 2012. His works can be seen at many art shows and a few galleries around SF including Art Attack SF and Haight Gallery. Chris strives to push the limits of his own abilities by exploring different techniques and conducting “art experiments” . His works often draw attention the simplicity and beauty of the female form. He currently works at Tech Shop Soma as an CNC embroidery instructor.
Holy Stitch Denim Social Club is the brainchild of Julian Dash Prince. we are small run factory, showroom and classroom all in one. our goal is to teach the youth how to become social entrepreneurs via the sewing machine, arts and technology. we do this by teaching and employing the local youth and providing service for the local and global community. we are able to bring any clothing related idea to fruition from any stage of production.
